Roller blinds for Big Bay's floor-to-ceiling glass

The everyday workhorse — a fabric panel on an aluminium tube, made to measure for every stacking door and picture window on the bay.

One product, three ways to run it

Roller blinds do more work than any other product in the range, mostly because they're so adaptable to what a window actually needs. In Big Bay that mostly comes down to two things: how much glass there is, and how much of the sunset view you're willing to trade for glare control.

Blockout fabric is the answer for bedrooms and media rooms — total light-stop, and a genuine thermal layer against both the afternoon sun and a cold south-easter night. Sunscreen fabric, usually in the 3–5% openness range, is the default for big view glass: it knocks the glare off the water down to something liveable without blacking out Table Mountain across the bay. The trade-off is privacy — sunscreen looks fine from inside during the day, but once the lights go on at night, the room is visible from outside. Most Big Bay lounges and open-plan living areas run sunscreen; most bedrooms run blockout; a fair number of rooms run both, on a double bracket, so you switch between the two rather than choosing once.

Because Big Bay glazing tends to run wide — stacking doors, corner windows, double-volume walls — we're often specifying beyond what a single blind can span cleanly on its own. A single roller runs to roughly 3m of fabric width before it needs a central join line or a switch to linked, motorised blinds working off one control. On anything that size, motorisation stops being an upsell and becomes the only sensible way to actually operate the window day to day.

Blockout

Total light stop for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms, with a genuine thermal benefit against summer heat and winter cold.

Sunscreen (3–5% openness)

View-preserving glare and UV control for big glass — daytime privacy in, reversed once the lights go on at night.

Double roller (day & night)

Sunscreen and blockout on one bracket — the practical answer for a bedroom that still wants the view.

Motorised & wide-span

Battery or wired motors for spans too wide or too high for a chain, with a chain tensioner fitted as standard everywhere else.
